Teaching for what learners can do.

Competency-based education shifts the question from “what was covered?” to “what can the learner now do?”. Belize’s National Curriculum Framework is built on it, and schools at every level are working out what that means day to day.

BUILD’s CBE training gives teachers and school leaders both the ideas and the practice: designing units around competencies, assessing performance rather than recall, and planning the change across a school.

For 2026–27 we are also developing a graduate-level course in CBE for educational leaders with the Ministry of Education.

What you’ll learn

  • What competency-based education is, and how it differs from covering content
  • Reading and using Belize’s National Curriculum Framework
  • Designing units and lessons around competencies
  • Assessing what learners can do, and giving feedback that moves them on
  • Leading the change in a school or department
