Understanding of and advocacy for sustainable human development.

On 18 September 2023 Dr. Louis Zabaneh presented Part I of Understanding of and Advocacy for Sustainable Human Development, a full-day seminar in the President’s Conference Room at the University of Belize. The seminar covered the seventh macro-competency of Belize’s competency-based curriculum.

The day moved from a summary of the CBE curriculum transformation to the foundations of sustainable and human development, leadership, the four pillars of SHD, Belize’s national strategy (Horizon 2030), human agency and good governance, and the Generalized Sustainable Capability Framework.

Participants then worked in groups on four Belizean case studies: the People’s Constitution Commission, the US$77 million loan for solar power, free education for high school, and the Blue Bond agreement.

The seminar is the basis of BUILD’s Sustainable Human Development course.
